Grace & Style by Grace Helbig (Book #4)

"Just because the forecast calls for cloudy weather, doesn't means you can't dress like sunshine."
Grace's Style: The Art of Pretending You Have It by YouTube sensation Grace Helbig is pretty much a fashion/beauty blog in book form. In her own unique way, Helbig takes the reader on a journey through her wardrobe and make up bag, making gags along the way.
This is by no means a style bible, and nor is it meant to be. For the average woman, dressing for the day and perfecting a look can be hard work. We don't all roll out of bed looking like a Elle model. Well some of us do, but not 95% of the population... Grace acknowledges this and writes to prove a point; even the most disorganised, fashion fearing people can get along in the style world.
Whilst the book takes a funny look at style, Grace also opens up about her struggle with eating disorders and how it has affected her sense of style. At no point in the book does she dwell on her past or reach out for sympathy. Instead she uses her knowledge of eating disorders to further the reach of her book; she takes into consideration the thoughts and feelings of any readers who may have been personally affected. In a world where awareness for eating disorders is growing, but not at the same rate as acceptance, this is a refreshing take to see.
Personal highlights for me include the Sweatpants diaries (a gripping tail of a plucky pair of sweatpants starting college), the do-I-really-need-this flowcharts and numerous funny reworkings of famous quotes from style icons.
Helbigs' newest offering to the self-help book industry really does have it all; style, fun, and grace. She speaks the true thoughts of many a twenty-something woman, changing perceptions as she goes.
